Let’s discuss partner workouts!

Did you know that having someone join you as you exercise, specifically your significant other, drastically increases your odds of success?

It’s true! And that brings me to the important topic at hand: top partner workouts that are both fun and sustainable!

If you’ve been looking or a new activity to do with your significant other that will help strengthen your bond and also promote healthy lifestyles, this is the article for you! Let’s get started!

5 Partner Workouts to Try Today!

I have a surprising study finding to share with you: Working out with your significant other makes you 30 percent more likely to stick with it long-term! [1]

So, if you’ve ever had trouble sticking with a workout, it’s a great idea to invite your life partner to join you in some fun partner workouts. And that leads me to my next point: Some workouts are more partner-friendly than others.

Let’s take a look at five of the top partner workouts so you have a few to choose from as you get started exercising with your significant other or friend.

1. Sit Up and Pass

This workout is as simple as its name: You simply do a sit up holding a medicine ball and pass the ball to your partner as you rise up. Here’s a video how-to!

2. Push-Up with Shoulder Tap

Now, push-ups can be a little tough to do if you’re just starting to work out regularly and don’t have a lot of upper body strength. That said, the push-up with shoulder tap is one of the more challenging partner workouts, making it fun!

To complete this workout, do a push-up and as you rise back up with arms fully extended, you and your partner will tap each other’s shoulder. See the video below for a quick tutorial.

If you find that you’re struggling with the push-up, you can always modify it by starting on your knees.

3. Dancing

If you know me, you know I love to dance. In fact, here’s a fun fact: I take a dance class every week! It’s one of my absolute favorite ways to stay in shape. And I love to dance with others—it just makes it more fun!

While I dance with a group, dancing is one of the oldest and most effective partner workouts to do!

Whether you’re just grooving to music together in your living room or you choose to take a class together to learn how to jive (check out the fun video below!), dancing with a partner isn’t only a great workout but it’s also a fantastic way to bond with your significant other or friend.

4. Lateral Lunge with Push

With the partner workouts above, both you and your partner are actively exercising. If you’re having trouble finding a motivated partner to agree to working out, this may be the answer for you!

The lateral lunge with push only requires your partner to gently push you into the lunge using a medicine ball. The momentum causes you to push off harder with your leg, providing a more challenging workout. Check out the video below for an effective how-to example.

5. Interval Walking

Finally, I want to discuss another one of my favorite partner workouts: walking! I walk every single day, and I often bring along a friend. It helps to pass the time and also gives me a chance to pour into those I love most while also prioritizing my health.

When it comes to the type of walk, I prefer interval walking because the research shows it’s most effective.

If you’re looking for a specific walking plan like the one I use, check out my Walking for Weight Loss eBook.

It includes two different four-week protocols that will meet you at your starting point as well as a tracker to help you stay motivated and remain aware of your progress each day!

Well, there you have it! I hope you enjoy your new partner workouts and find them useful as you spend valuable time prioritizing your health with someone you love!
